A Declaration, of Sorts

the primary Colors on the wheel

that hung from the ceiling in Art Class

stepped out against the stark, white walls--

a startling Contrast in itself.

in this room, Rules were Bent. 

stools and circular tables took the place of individual desks in rows.

Fluidity for Rigidity.

a room for Collaboration.

room for Growth.

Contrast is important, 

We learned.

Contrast is beautiful.

Contrast is powerful.

Contrast elevates.

almost two decades later,

three more levels of school have come and gone.

I’m in the Real world now.

living in a place that is divided by Contrast.

Forgotten beauty.

Forgotten power.

I will keep your dark hand in my light one,

until we all remember how to Elevate.
