Support

One beam can support a house.

it doesn't do anything, if we're referring to action

or movement.

for it to work, the beam must stand

still, unmoving, ever present.

through rain and flooding,

ice and snow and sleet,

thunder or lightning;

the beam stands still,

unmoving.

it stands to see the sun return,

blue skies and fluffy clouds,

gentle breezes and calm;

the beam stands still, unmoving.

whether an empty house,

or one chock-full;

the beam stands still, unmoving.

it is there because it has to be,

the spot on which the house may lean

both in times of strength

and utter weakness.
