Subtleties

My mom always said

when we picked out vegetables at the Farmer’s Market on the corner of Pleasant & Church

to get every color of the rainbow

because each color holds different nutrients

and each nutrient is important.

Last Saturday I scanned the circle that surrounded me.

Nobody looked like me and nobody looked like each other, save for the two brothers who have a genetic obligation.

They’ve each impacted me differently.

Made me laugh.

Made me think.

Toughened me up.

Healed my pain.

Opened my mind.

We learn from each others’ stories and beliefs,

reactions and tendencies.

We nurture, and we grow.

Each nutrient is vital.
